| Comprehensive school review
initiatives may be requested by headteachers, governors and/or school managers,
either as part of an ongoing school development programme or prior to an
advised Ofsted inspection. A typical service offered would involve several
days devoted to staff discussions, lesson observations and examination
of pupils' work, school records and policies. This comprehensive data collection
forms the basis of a detailed report of some 20 pages in length, making
recommendations for prioritisation and short and long term planning. The
framework for the evaluation can be selected according need or alternatively,
in the case of a pre-Ofsted review, be derived broadly from the framework
employed by Ofsted inspectors. Depending on the time scale available and
specific school requirements, further consultation may be requested for
a range of initiatives such as teacher in-service, senior management team
development, policy writing, record keeping, and governor training.
Alternatively, headteachers may request a less detailed school audit which offers a snapshot picture of the school's status and development needs. This service is not available as part of a pre-Ofsted review since inevitably the information derived is less comprehensive and provides insufficient preparation for an Ofsted inspection. |
